Our Purpose
The Amigas, Hermanas, Guerreras Symposium celebrates the unity of all Latinas by honoring the bravery and hard work of our ancestors as well as empowering current and future generations of women to become stronger and more confident. Workshop topics vary but are intended to overcome "Marianismo" or traditional feminine gender roles that have historically suppressed Latina contributions in society. Workshops are interactive and will be presented in Spanish or English with interpretation options.

Aging, Menopause, and Mental Health in Hispanic/Latina Women - English Description:
Current evidence shows that age-related changes associated with menopause can have a significant impact on the physical, emotional, and social well-being of Hispanic/Latina women. Many Hispanic/Latina women view menopause as a natural stage of life; however, important challenges remain, including limited access to accurate information, barriers to healthcare, and the need for culturally responsive resources. Many Hispanic/Latina women report reaching menopause with little or no prior preparation because the topic was rarely discussed within their families. Menopause continues to be considered a taboo subject in many Hispanic/Latino cultures. This presentation will focus on increasing understanding of how Hispanic/Latina women experience and cope with menopause through the lens of cultural values, beliefs, and expectations surrounding womanhood. The presentation also aims to raise awareness among Hispanic/Latina women about the importance of openly discussing menopause as a way to reduce cultural stigma, increase awareness, and improve understanding of its impact on the overall health and well-being of Hispanic/Latina women.

Letters to Our Ancestors: A Community Writing Workshop (Activity in English):
Join Cosmic Tía for a guided community writing experience honoring the stories, wisdom, and resilience that live within our lineages.
Through reflection prompts, gentle meditation, and intentional writing, we'll create space to connect with our ancestors, whether by blood, chosen family, cultural heritage, beloved elders, teachers, or those whose lives made ours possible. Together, we'll explore what has been passed down to us, what we are carrying, and what we hope to offer future generations.
No writing experience is necessary. This workshop is not about perfect words but about listening, remembering, and creating space for connection. You'll be guided through a series of reflections before writing a personal letter to your ancestors, with opportunities for quiet contemplation and optional sharing.
Please bring a journal if you'd like, though writing materials will be provided.
